(Stanton) Stanton meets Riverside in a Class 1A Boys District Basketball Tournament game Monday night. We’ll have the contest on KSOM.
The Vikings have won three out of four and enter the postseason with a 12-7 record. Here’s head coach Jake Lord. “Nice wins over Griswold, Fremont-Mills, and Clarinda Academy and a tough, tough loss to East Mills. Had a good lead at halftime, but they had some kids hit some big shots and we didn’t hit ours.” Lord says, “I like the way we finished and I’m looking forward to the postseason for sure.”
Coach Lord says sharing the basketball has become a strength for his team. They are led by Carter Johnson averaging 20.9 points per game. They beat Riverside 65-58 back on December 3rd. It was a game where they needed 36 fourth quarter points to win. “They have a couple of senior leaders that do a really nice job for them that have been around a long time. Their young guys are just studs. Grady Jeppesen is one of the smoothest basketball players we’ve seen all year, a really special talent. They are a really solid team and I’m not surprised they got the 3rd seed in our district.” He adds, “We know we have a big task ahead of us, but we are definitely ready for the challenge.”
The winner moves on to a district semifinal in Anita on Thursday.
