(Oakland) KSOM will air a Class 1A District 14 Quarterfinal from Oakland Monday night. Riverside hosts Stanton.
This is a rematch of a game way back on December 3rd that Stanton won 65-58. Here’s Riverside coach Nick Kroon. “I think both teams are a little bit different. That’s the game where we were up 12 with 4:30 left and they threw a press on us and we had quite a bit of inexperience.”
In fact, Stanton outscored Riverside 36-16 in the 4th quarter to rally back from a 42-29 deficit. “They got hot, they got a lot of steals, and if they did miss I think they got the offensive rebound every time in the fourth quarter. I anticipate another good ball game.”
Riverside has gone on to accomplish some impressive things this season including reaching double digit wins for the first time in since their 24-2 state tournament team in 2012-13. Coach Kroon says the team has been locked in defensively and their offense has been clicking for the past few weeks. It’s a team that believes they can win. “Just having that belief makes it fun for our kids and makes it fun to coach. You just feel like you have a chance if you are close. The attitude has been very good and our kids have done an outstanding job this year.”
Grady Jeppesen has turned in a dynamic freshman season with an average of 16.9 points per game. He’s shooting nearly 38% from 3-point range. Brogan Allensworth contributes 13 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while Drake Woods and Aiden Bell have been reliable scoring options as well.
Pregame coverage starts at 6:45 p.m. Stanton has one of the area’s top scorers with Carter Johnson averaging 20.9 points per game. The Vikings are 12-7.
