(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council held a public hearing on the sale of real estate at 403 West 14th Street at their meeting Wednesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Spurr, the owners of the abutting property at 401 West 14th had submitted a bid for the property that satisfies all the requirements. They have agreed to purchase the land for $10,000. 403 West 14th is one of the City’s properties that was acquired under Iowa Code “Petition by City for Title of Abandoned Property”. The City demolished the dilapidated home and the property has remained in the city inventory. There were no written or oral comments from the public. Following the public hearing, the Council approved the sale of the property to Mr. and Mrs. Spurr for $10,000.
In other news, the City Council approved the Third and Final Reading of Ordnance No. 2003 Amending the Code of Ordinances of the City of Atlantic by Amending Chapter 106 Entitled ‘Collection of Solid Waste’. This ordinance brings the Solid Waste Collector Permit requirements into alignment with the other businesses operating under a City license.
The Council also approved the second, as well as the third and final readings, amending the Code of Ordinances in Section 18.01 of Chapter 18 entitled City Clerk and Section 20.01 of Chapter 20 entitled City Attorney. This ordinance change would eliminate the two-year reappointment schedule and make the City Clerk a permanent employee. The change would also remove the two-year term period for City Attorney and make it a permanent appointment. Appointment of the City Attorney will occur as needed.
The Council then approved change Order #5 for the Atlantic Downtown Revitalization Project. The change order is proposed to add $3,545.60 to the cost of the project, bringing the contract to $452,874.60. The specific changes proposed are the addition of door hardware, hardware revision to 412 Chestnut Street.
