(Des Moines) Atlantic High School graduate and Iowa State university student Cody McCreedy is interning as a Representative Clerk at the Iowa State Capitol during the 2021 session. McCreedy, 2018, Atlantic High School graduate, is majoring in history and secondary education and minoring in political science.
Cody McCreedy became involved in the political sector in the fall of 2020, working for the Randy Feenstra campaign as extra credit in his political science class. Every Tuesday, McCreedy would make phone calls to Republicans throughout the state of Iowa and wrote letters to Republicans living in Ames.
McCreedy thought about a while and decided to give it a shot. After an interview, District 54 State Representative Shannon Latham offered him the job. McCreedy accepted and admitted it was a good decision.
Part of McCreedy’s job is researching bills. On Thursday, McCreedy spent the entire day researching the Second Amendment Protection Bill. McCreedy admits he’s learned a lot about the Bill creation process.
McCreedy says the internship has given him the passion for pursuing Political Science to run for office someday.
McCreedy continues to take classes at Iowa State, many of them online, while he continues his internship at the State Capitol.
Cody is the son of Marty and Shelby McCreedy.
