(Des Moines) Lawmakers head back to the State Capitol for week two of the 2021 session. Iowa District 11 Senator Tom Shipley says the environment is different this year.
“It’s an extraordinary environment when you’re accustomed to many people being there, and now there is very few,” stated Shipley.
For instance, Shipley says there are no doorkeepers.“The normal process is people come to the door and send a note in when they want to see one of the legislators,” explained Shipley. “I’m not sure who is going to send in the messages. It’s just a very different environment.”
Senator Shipley says you get accustomed to it being a certain way for six years, and now there is nobody there. He says it’s going to take some time getting used to.
Senator Shipley Chairs the Local Government Committee and sits on the Agriculture, Natural Resources, Ag and Natural Resources and Appropriations, and Judiciary committees.
