Ronald Dean Akers, son of Dale and Leita (Richardson) Akers, was born on February 16, 1956 in Lake City, Iowa. He attended Walnut High School. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed in California and Guam. He was blessed with four children: Ranea, Reita, Cheri, and Ronald Jr.
After his discharge he lived in North Carolina working in furniture factories until an accident with a buzz saw ended that career. He always enjoyed auctions and was a wheeler dealer. He was always on site for auctions to help in whatever way he could, it was truly his passion. When Ron’s health declined he moved back to Avoca to be closer to family. He enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, watching tv, and helping others any way he was able.
Ron gave to the very end. He was an organ donor. Although they couldn’t use any of his vital organs they were able to use his tissues, bone, and cornea’s for another soul.
Ron passed away at the Nebraska Medical Center on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, having attained the age of sixty-four years, ten months and twenty-eight days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Leita Akers, his grandparents, Otto and Mary Akers, Roy and Hazel Richardson, and his niece Sarah Rae Hagadon.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Ranea Sievers of Walnut, Iowa; Reita (Nate) Larsen of Blair, Nebraska; Cheri Akers Warren of Hickory, North Carolina; and Ronald Dean Akers, Jr. of Avoca, Iowa; grandchildren: Zoe, Kyle, Dexter, Dane, London, and Landry; siblings Dennis (Betty) Akers of Walnut, Iowa; Linda (Jon) Hall of Omaha, Nebraska; Janet (Randall) Lawson of Stuart, Iowa; and other family and many friends.
