Wylie Dewan Busse, the son of Werner “Bud” and Martha “Edith” (Greer) Busse, was born September 23, 1939 in Council Bluffs, IA. He died January 12, 2021, at his home east of Oakland, IA, at the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 20 days.
Wylie attended country school and then graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1957. He enlisted in the Army and served in Washington D.C. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Oakland and worked with his father raising hogs, showing horses, and farming. On March 9, 1973, he was united in marriage to Connie Beckendorf. Two children were born to this union, Rachel, and Rebecca. They lived near Hancock until 1979, when they built a house and moved east of Oakland. Wylie retired from farming in 2018.
Wylie was a member of the Oakland united Methodist Church. He had served on the Oakland School Board, had been a member of the Pottawattamie County Pork Producers, and had sold Hoegenmeyer Seed Corn.
Wylie is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Charles; and his sister-in-law Cindy.
He is survived by his wife Connie; his daughters Rachel Allensworth and husband Chris of Macedonia, IA, and Rebecca Hodnefield and husband Jacob of Hubbard, IA; his grandchildren: Brogan and Keagan Allensworth, and Kennedy, Rylie, and Aniken Hodnefield; and his sister Teresa Griffith and husband John of Ames, IA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Masks will be required, and social distancing encouraged. Visitation with the family will be held at the church, on Saturday morning, from 9:00 AM until the time of the memorial service. Interment will be at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
