(Guthrie Center) After discussion amongst West Central Activities Conference Activities Directors, ACGC will be allowing fans back into the gym for home sporting events. Charger AD Cody Matthewson says the conference discussed things on Friday and decided to leave the choice up to each individual school.
Matthewson says face coverings and social distancing between families will still be required. He adds everyone needs to work together to make sure it can continue. “This is something that some other schools are choosing not to do. Some of them are still sticking with the spectator limitations. We are trying to work with everybody and give everybody the opportunity for normalcy so at the end of the day it’s a ‘Help us, help you.’ Let’s all work together on this.”
He says if guidelines aren’t followed then they may have to go back to limiting fans, but he’s confident they can execute in a safe manner. He’s not surprised by Governor Kim Reynolds’ latest proclamation. Things had been trending in that direction from two spectators per athlete to two spectators for athletes, cheer leaders, band members, and coaches to entire households. Normalcy is a word Matthewson kept turning to, “I know for a fact kids love the crowd. I know as a football coach just from the kids point of view that they feed off the crowd. There is definitely an advantage.”
