(Leon) The 2021 portion of Nodaway Valley’s wrestling season got started on Saturday when the Wolverines competed in a dual tourney at Central Decatur. Nodaway Valley went 0-3 on the day with losses to Moberly, SE Warren/Melcher-Dallas, and Central Decatur. They filled six of the fourteen weights.
Junior Elliot Cooney notched his 100th career win.
The day started with a 30-24 setback against Central Decatur. Nodaway Valley won two of the four contested weight classes. Ben Breheny won by fall over William Gillis at 126 and Caelen DeVault pinned Jesse Niebauer at 170.
Round two brought a 47-27 loss to eventual runner-up SE Warren/Melcher Dallas. Elliot Cooney (120), Ben Breheny (126), Zackery Gebbie (132), and Brandon Raasch (160) all won by fall. Caelen DeVault (170) won a 14-3 major decision.
Nodaway Valley fell to the team champ Moberly by a score of 48-24. Pins were earned by Elliot Cooney (120), Ben Breheny (126), Jaxon Christensen (138), and Caelen DeVault (170).
