(Lewis) The second shotgun deer season ended one week ago. Bryan Hayes, with the DNR, says to-date, in Iowa, Hunters harvested 96,000 deer. The harvest includes; 44,000 Does and 52,000 Bucks.
“There were more bucks harvested than Does, so to reduce the herd, we need to flip that,” said Hayes.
Hayes says the 96,000 deer harvest is a good number, and it appears the deer harvest is stable through the years.
“We appreciate the work the hunters do to manage the deer herd,” said Hayes. “I know it’s their passion, and they really enjoy it. But they’re doing the state of Iowa a favor by helping them manage the deer population.”
