(Atlantic) The Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department will not be opening the ice skating rink at Sunnyside Park this winter.
Atlantic Parks and Recreation Director Bryant Rasmussen told the Park Board Monday night that he has been watching the proclamations that have been put out by the Governor and nothing really specifies the recreational side of things besides enforcing social distancing.
Rasmussen asked the Board for their opinion on whether they should open it or not.
The Board made a motion and approved not opening the ice skating rink this winter.
In other news, Rasmussen said he has been looking into how much it would cost to purchase a few kayaks, canoes and life jackets for the public to rent out and be able to use at Schildberg Recreation Area or even on water trails.
Rasmussen said he would speak with the City Attorney to see what, if any, liability issues there might be with that.
Rasmussen said they are also working on brochures with the goal to promote the department with everything they do, their programs, the recreation equipment available, and so much more. Rasmussen said they will also have opportunities for free publicity for businesses in the brochure as well.
