(Audubon) The season opener is fast approaching for the Audubon boys basketball team. They play South Central Calhoun on Monday and AHSTW on Tuesday. We’ll have the AHSTW contest on the air on 96.5 FM KSOM.
Coach Coleman Mullenix and crew are excited to get things rolling. “I am very excited for the group. They are really good competitors, play hard every day, really team oriented, so I’m excited to work with them and also excited just that we get to play basketball.”
Two senior leaders and a few juniors will make up the core of the squad. “Joel and Ethan Klocke, they obviously played a lot in the past and we’ll be depending on them. Our junior class will be really big for us. Joey Schramm, Gavin Smith, Jackson Deist, and then Braden Wessel as well so hopefully a lot of big things from that class.”
Gavin Smith and Joel Klocke both averaged over seven points per game last year with several others averaging around three or four. They hope to feature a balanced scoring attack. “We don’t have anyone that’s going to have the ball in their hand a lot in the half court set. We never really play that way anyway. The nature of our team is to move the ball and when you have an advantage on a defender you have to be confident to attack that advantage. Everyone has been willing to do that.”
Audubon won eight games last year and played very competitively down the stretch.
