(Oakland) Riverside Schools Superintendent Tim Mitchell announced Friday that due to the high numbers of student and staff absenteeism, Riverside will be moving to full required remote learning on Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th.
Mitchell said they currently have approximately 25% of the students and approximately 15% of the staff out due to testing positive for COVID-19 or being determined a primary contact and having the need to be in quarantine.
“We still are seeing pretty little infection, we only have four current students that are positive and three current staff members that are positive but contract tracing out into the community when other people are positive are causing us some staffing issues and so we continue to ask our staff to be very careful when they’re out outside of school,” said Mitchell. “But, we really have a difficult time staffing the school on Monday and Tuesday due to the current numbers so we’re going to remote learn on Monday and Tuesday and we see that the quarantine for many of our students and staff will be completed by November 30th and we hope to go back into our traditional 100% in-face instruction on Monday November 30th.”
Riverside Childcare will be open for the normal hours of operation. Meals will be available at each building. The student/parent/caregiver has to pick up at the building their student attends. Distribution is from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM Monday November 23. Each meal packet will include food for two breakfasts and two lunches.
