(Atlantic) A new kayak launch has been added to the docks at Schildberg Recreation Area in Atlantic.
Atlantic Parks and Recreation Director Bryant Rasmussen told the Park Board Monday night that they were able to add the kayak launches to the small dock on the west side and the big dock on the east side thanks to Elkhart Plastics. “It looks great and we’re very appreciative of that.”
In other news, Rasmussen said they added a donation post out of the Dog Park.
“A lot of times the big cities charge people to use their dog parks; we don’t want to get to the point where we’re charging people to use our amenities, but just to say if you do enjoy using this even a dollar here or a dollar there will help us to be able to continue to add new amenities to this or the upkeep of the current ones,” explained Rasmussen.
Rasmussen said their goal is to hopefully raise around $100 a year. He said the donation post has been there for about a week and they have already had $57 put in that pay post.
Rasmussen also noted that the waterless restroom is fixed and open, however there is no heater. He said the second shelter at Schildberg Recreation Area is also complete.
