(Atlantic) Akin Building Center is accepting donations for families in need this holiday season.
Office Manager Ashley Skow says 2020 has been a dark time for many families and neighbors, therefore Akin’s wants to give back. “We had a manager meeting and we were talking about how thankful we are to not have to shut down and to be able to continue working through this. We really wanted to give back to those that haven’t been as lucky as we have been and make a difference in people’s lives. We called “Be the Light” because there are a lot of people in a dark time and we hoped it would be a domino effect for others to pay it forward and make a difference in people’s lives.”
Akin’s is collecting toys at any of their four locations in Atlantic, Clarinda, Creston, or Corning. Due to COVID, donated gifts must be new. “We will wrap them and sort them for the families that are nominated. Anyone can nominate a family or a neighbor in need. If there’s an elderly couple that’s in need of something and we can make a difference we would love to do that. It’s not limited to anybody, it’s just for anybody that needs help.”
Donations are being accepted through December 21st with gifts being delivered by December 23rd. “I hope to encourage everybody whether they do this with us or something else just find a way to be the light in somebody’s life. There’s a lot of people, even those that you wouldn’t think are struggling and could use some encouragement and some hope.”
