(Walnut) The Walnut Fire Department is going to restart their Cadet program.
Walnut City Clerk Shannon Wood said the Fire Department appeared before the City Council last week to ask for their approval. The program is for High School students between 16 and 18 years of age.
“They are pretty much a firefighter. They cannot go into buildings, there are a lot of restrictions, but they can do all of the training that we have and they can go on all of the calls,” explained Wood. “It’s our way of trying to get the younger kids interested and get more members on the Department.”
Shannon Wood said they have three Cadets wanting to join the Fire Department.
In other news, Wood said their Housing Rehabilitation Grant target area has been expanded and it pretty much includes the entire City now. She said anyone interested in the housing rehabilitation program can contact City Hall or SWIPCO for an application.
