(Montgomery Co.) Montgomery County Treasurer Tera Hughes submitted a letter of resignation effective November 6th.
Montgomery County Auditor Stephanie Burke said Hughes is relocating so she will no longer be living in Montgomery County. There are two options to fill the vacancy: an appointment made by the Board of Supervisors or they can hold a special election.
Burke said the Supervisors, after a lengthy discussion this morning, decided to appoint a new Treasurer.
“That appointment will be made December 1, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. Anyone interested needs to submit a letter of intent and a resume to the Montgomery County Auditor’s Office. That is due November 20th,” explained Burke.
Burke said citizens have the right to petition for a special election after the Treasurer is appointed. She said petitions must be filed within 14-days after the appointment.
