Mardyl Rose Carlson, the daughter of Lawrence W. and Elsie Rose (Gottsche) Mueller, was born January 9, 1931 in Noble Township, near Lyman, IA. Mardyl died October 20, 2020, at the Hansen House in Harlan, IA, at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 11 days.
Mardyl attended country school and then graduated from Griswold High School. After graduation, she began working for Murphy Calendar Company in Red Oak. On October 4, 1953, she was united in marriage to Marlen Carlson, JR. Two boys were born to this union, Jeff and Jerry. They lived in Essex for short time before moving to a farm near Lyman. Mardyl lived at home until several weeks ago.
Mardyl was a lifelong member of St. Johns United Church of Christ. She had been a member of the Women’s Fellowship, where she had held various offices. She had sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and had served on the church board. She enjoyed quilting. Most of all, she was a loving wife and mother.
Mardyl is preceded in death by her husband in 2010, and her parents.
She is survived by her children, Jeff Carlson of Griswold, IA, and Jerry Carlson and wife Karen of Atlantic, IA; her step granddaughter Danielle Rosenmeyer and husband Ryan; her great grandchildren: Caden, Mabel, Stella, and Liza Rosenmeyer; and many other relatives and friends.
An open viewing will be held at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday, October 26, 2020, from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM. The family will not be present at any specific time. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at 11:00 AM, at St. Johns United Church of Christ, south of Lyman. Private family interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
