(Elk Horn) The Exira-EHK School Board recently re-visited their mask policy.
Superintendent Trevor Miller says they’ll still use “expected” for the terminology. “The board looked at where our numbers were and the number of people we’ve had exposed. As for now they are saying we haven’t had a big influx yet so we are going to stay with expected. If all of a sudden we have an increase of cases and more kids going home we might need to bring it back and change to required so that’s kind of where we left it.”
With recent changes in determining exposure if both parties are wearing masks, the board re-opened the conversation. “kind of where we left it.” n-1021-22 Miller
Another discussion item for the school board was on the administration set up for the rest of the school year and next year. Elementary Principal Rochelle Bruns recently lost her two year battle with cancer. “JoAnne Morenz has been in the building for half time and then also teaching half time in the high school English department so we’ll keep it the same for the rest of the semester.”
That current set-up could change at the end of the semester. “We are going to possibly look for a long term sub for an English teacher second semester so we can provide some more support in the elementary.” If they can’t find anyone then they will use a rotation of current administrators to cover the building’s needs. Several options including some type of sharing agreement with another district or a combination position are on the table for next school year.
