(Anita) A pair of teams with over 20 wins square off in the 2nd round on the Class 1A regional volleyball trail. We’ll have the matchup between CAM and Stanton on the air Wednesday night on KSOM.
The 22-5 Cougars are coming off of a sweep of Griswold while 23-5 Stanton ousted Essex in straight sets. CAM coach Jenna Maiers takes a look at Stanton. “They are going to be a tough team, I’m definitely not taking it lightly. We are going to have to play on top of our game and do our thing. Hopefully we can put a stop to them.”
Coach Maiers saw a good level of energy from her team in a 3-set win over Griswold Monday. “We played really, really well as a team. We stayed on top of our game. We kept our energy level high and that’s something we’ve been teetering on all year long.”
Stanton presents some unique challenges. “Tara Peterson is their leader in kills and watching her swing on film she has a really nice swing. We aren’t going to stop her, but we at least need to slow her down and get some touches on blocks so our defense can pick up the ball and we can get something going.”
Prematch coverage gets rolling at 6:45, first serve is at 7:00. The winner plays either Grand View Christian or Ankeny Christian next week in a regional semifinal.
