(Oakland) Riverside rarely trailed in a 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 sweep of Exira-EHK in the first round of the regional tournament.
The Lady Dawgs advance with a 15-11 record to face #12 Coon Rapids-Bayard. The 16-3 Crusaders will host Wednesday’s regional quarterfinal match. Mack Olmstead-Mitchell led the victors with nine kills. Ella Hensley pitched in with eight kills while Veronica Andrusyshyn had six. Kenna Ford posted 24 assists in the victory. Ford also led the team in digs with 14 while Andrusyshyn came up with 13 digs, Madi Baldwin had 12, and Ari McGlade 11. Carly Henderson served up four aces, most of which came in one stretch at the tail end of the 2nd set.
KSOM Sports spoke with Baldwin after the match. “I think we played really good. We’ve been working really hard this season and we really want to end our season in Cedar Rapids.”
Exira-EHK led 4-1 in the first set, but Riverside scored eight straight points and were in control most of the rest of the night. Exira-EHK bows out at 11-18.
