(Council Bluffs) A trout stocking event in Council Bluffs this month is designed to get the most out of what’s left of fall fishing.
Fisheries Biologist Bryan Hayes says it’s not too late to get some fishing in before you turn your attention to the upcoming hunting seasons. Big Lake in Council Bluffs was the beneficiary of the DNR’s Urban Trout Program. “It’s kind of on the north side of Council Bluffs. It is one of our community trout stocking lakes. It’s one of 18 that we have across the state. It got a load of 1,000 trout that were brought down from Big Springs Hatchery in Elkader. They are in there and ready to be fished.”
The Urban Trout Program is something the DNR is proud to offer. “It’s really a great program bringing some fish really close to where a lot of people live. We can throw 1,000 trout in one of these urban ponds and it creates great fishing for a month or until the weather turns cold.”
Another trout stocking event will take place once there is safe ice. Those taking part will need a trout stamp in addition to your fishing license. There is a limit of five.
