Richard Leroy Roberts, the son of LaVonne Roberts, was born March 6, 1946 in Aberdeen, SD. Richard died October 8, 2020 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA, at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 2 days.
Richard moved to Omaha when he was four years old. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on a Minesweeper during the Vietnam War. After being discharged, he returned to Omaha where he began working for Hyman Freightways as a truck driver. On January 1, 1996 he was united in marriage to Pamela Eckert in Steamboat Springs, CO. They lived in Omaha until 2008, when they moved to Oakland. Richard lived in Oakland until the time of his death.
Richard was a member of the V.F.W. He loved swimming, scuba diving, traveling, and working in the yard.
He is preceded in death by his mother; his sister Marlene; and his step grandson Quintin.
He is survived by his wife Pam of Oakland, IA; his son Todd Leroy Roberts and wife Kim of Atlantic, IA; his grandchildren, Brandon and Sara; two great grandchildren; his step children: Jeff Brownfield and wife Sherrie of Omaha, NE, Chrissy Siegert of Council Bluffs, IA, Carrie Jerdon and husband Jon of Bellevue, NE, and Lowell Brownfield of Duluth, MN; fifteen step grandchildren; one great step grandchild; his sister Patsy Gehring of Mesa, AZ; and his puppies, Missy and Lucky. Richard is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020, at 11:00 AM at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland, IA. Interment will be at the Omaha National Cemetery at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
