(Atlantic) The Atlantic High School Cheerleading squad is competing in the Class 3A State Championships.
This is only the second time in school history an Atlantic Cheerleading squad has competed. Cheerleading Coach Michella Bartholomew is looking to change that. The competition team recorded three routines for three different divisions at the State Championship level; School Song division, Band Chant division, and Time-Out division.
“The three divisions each give athletes the chance to showcase various cheerleading skills,” said Bartholomew. “Seniors, Molly McFadden and Jenna Pelzer spend a whole Sunday afternoon choreographing this years’ State competition band chant routine. Both Molly and Jenna have numerous years of experience with dance and cheer, and also with competition experience in dance and show choir. The Time-out division, which has a tumbling/stunting division or non-division, is where the athletes simulate a time-out, entering and exiting the court in less than a minute. All while tumbling, stunting, kicking, and using a cheer to gain crowd involvement. The Trojans competed in the tumbling and stunting division, having skilled athletes in both these areas.”
The deadline for videos is October 9th. The Iowa Cheerleading Coaches Association has not announced when they will release results.
Coach Bartholomew thanks her assistant coach/choreographer Kerra Christensen, Heather McKay, Ben Bartholomew, Andy Mitchell, and Amber Jipsen, for all their help in making it possible.
Atlantic will compete in 3A. The competition team includes fourteen athletes, eight seniors, four juniors, and one sophomore and freshman; Grace Barkley, Madison Clark, Beverly Dodson, Kaiden Hatley, Kelsey Haupert, Taliya James, Rivea Keen, Molly McFadden, Jasmyne Oasay-Waddell, Jenna Pelzer, Kaitlyn Rothfusz, Kamryn Steffens, Makynzie Steffens, and Mia Trotter.
