(Harlan) Harlan looks to stay unbeaten Friday night when they host winless Denison-Schleswig.
Harlan coach Todd Bladt would like to see his squad get off to a quicker start than they did against Glenwood last week. After facing a rugged stretch of Grinnell, Pella, and Glenwood he says his team can’t let up the intensity. “Any time in football you take a deep breath and step back and take your foot off the gas somebody is going to step in there and cut you off. We are looking to play a full four quarter football game and get after it from the first snap to the last.”
Harlan’s Teagon Kasperbauer really came out of the gates in great fashion. As a sophomore starter in Class 3A he threw for 269 yards against Grinnell and 347 yards the following game against Pella. “Well, the thing about Teagon is he’s not scared of much. He rides bulls in his spare time, so he’s kind of a hard nosed kid. He wasn’t going to be afraid of anybody.”
Harlan has allowed fewer points each game out. The defense is coming of age. “They are starting to see things and understand and communicate better. Early last week we were just kind of feeling things out and not seeing things on the field. We’ve been talking about just playing fast and playing loose and trusting your instincts.” Coach Bladt says Denison-Schleswig has a lot of size and the Cyclone linemen will need to have a big game and put pressure on the quarterback.
