(Audubon) Audubon takes an 11 game regular season win streak into their tussle at 1-2 Boyer Valley on Friday.
Sean Birks, head coach of the 2nd rated Wheelers, describes Boyer Valley as his team’s most unique challenge so far. “We haven’t faced anyone that runs the looks that they run.” Birks says, “It’s definitely the toughest week of preparation we’ve had in our four weeks. We definitely have our hands full.”
The Wheelers have been impressive in all facets, but their defense perhaps stands out the most. They’ve allowed only 15 total points in three games. Ethan Klocke, Gavin Smith, Joel Klocke, and Joey Schramm have led the charge. “Ethan, Gavin, and Joel do a really good job on the back half with communicating and getting us in the right spots. All three are returning starters. Up front Joey Schramm has been a force at nose. Any time you’re leading tackler is your nose guard that’s going to attract some attention there.”
Their offense has been no slouch. The team averages over 53 points per game and has scored at least at least 35 points in 12 of their last 13 wins. “When you’ve got a guy like Gavin Smith you keep teams guessing. If they sell out to stop the run I think we’ve proven that we can go to the air.” Ethan Klocke, Braden Wessel, Joel Klocke, and Matt Beisswenger are all capable options to throw to.
Alex Foran, Joey Schramm, and Cooper Nielsen are holding down the offensive line spots with Gavin Larsen, Peyton Meaike, and Jordan Schrader capable of filling in.
Three teams are starting to separate from the pack in 8-Player District 8. Woodbine, Coon Rapids-Bayard and Audubon are all 3-0 heading into Week 4.
