(Anita) Mike Plagman is the voice of the CAM Cougars. Plagman was roped into Public Address announcing role for basketball a few years ago and has since taken over football duties as well.
Plagman says he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and that’s how it all started for him. He initially declined the opportunity, but told the AD he’d step up if noone else could be found. Sure enough, as the season approached Plagman was pegged as the guy to take over the microphone.
He says it’s been a lot of fun. He’s enjoyed getting a chance to talk to coaches from opposing teams. Some advice he received when he first started still stands out, “I don’t know a lot about football schemes, but the late great Rex Merhoff told me ‘less is more, they did not come here to listen to you. They came here to watch the game.’ I said ‘That’s perfect.’ The less I can talk the better it is.”
