Norma Pauline Johnson Christensen, the daughter of Sevric Emmanuel and Helena Mary (McGowan) Johnson, was born November 18, 1934, in Chicago, IL. She died August 29, 2020, at the Rose Vista Care Center in Woodbine, IA, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 11 days.
Norma moved to Creston, Iowa in 1954, where she worked and went to college. She then worked at Council Bluffs Savings Bank for nearly 20 years. On July 13, 1996, she and Marvin were united into marriage in Macedonia, Iowa. Norma worked at Mercy Hospital in Environmental Services, cleaning the E.R. for 16 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Little Sioux, Iowa. They enjoyed traveling to Texas in the winters after their retirement and then settled in Oakland and Little Sioux, Iowa in their later years. After Marvin’s death on June 15, 2016, Norma remained in her home, until moving to the Nursing home in Woodbine.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, and son-in-law Dennis Gallaher.
She is survived by her children: Dora Gallaher of Gravette, AR, Dwayne Hoeck and wife Teresa of Vermillion, SD, Dayleen Nepple and husband, Leon of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Rebecca Meeker and husband, Kevin of Oakland, Iowa; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland on Friday, September 4, 2020, from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM. The family will not be present at any specific time. Public graveside interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery on Saturday at 2:00 PM. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
