(Clarinda) A 16-year old Clarinda Academy student faces felony eluding charges following a pursuit over the weekend.
Clarinda Police Chief Keith Brothers said the Officials from the Clarinda Academy reported two students missing at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.
One of the students identified by the Page County Sheriff’s Office as Ethan Stevenson, of Council Bluffs, stole a Toyota Rav 4 from the school grounds. Stevenson took off when the officers tried to stop the stolen vehicle. Stevenson headed northbound on Highway 2 on the west side of Clarinda. He failed to yield at the stop sign at Highway 2 and West State Street and crashed the stolen car into a ditch embankment. Officer’s apprehended the teen following a short foot pursuit.
The juvenile was treated at the Clarinda Regional Health Center for minor injuries and returned to the custody of the Clarinda Academy.
Clarinda Police charged Stevenson with theft of a motor vehicle, felony eluding of law enforcement, driving while revoked, failure to obey a stop sign, and speed.
Page County authorities cited Stevenson for failure to maintain control with other charges possible.
