(Audubon) Ethan Klocke took the first play from scrimmage 65 yards for a touchdown and #3 Audubon sprinted past Exira-EHK Friday night in Week 1. The Wheelers rolled up 358 yards off offense and won 55-0.
Forty-nine of the team’s points came in the 1st half and the starters didn’t see action in the 2nd half. In addition to the 65 yard run at the start, Ethan Klocke also caught a 49 yard score and ran one in from 17. Gavin Smith had a big night too. The junior completed two of his three pass attempts for 65 yards and two touchdowns along with a pair of rushing scores on 13 attempts for 138 yards. Joel Klocke caught a 16 yard touchdown and run for a four yard TD. Every time a Klocke touched the ball on offense it went for six points.
Joel Klocke’s two interceptions and Joey Schramm’s seven tackles were among the defensive bright spots. Exira-EHK was limited to 112 yards (84 passing and 28 rushing) on offense. Tyler Petersen connected on a 35 yard pass to Trey Petersen for the team’s biggest play of the game. It set up a goal-to-go situation, but the Wheeler defense forced a turnover on downs.
1-0 Audubon has Ar-We-Va next Friday night. Exira-EHK will oppose Coon Rapids-Bayard in Week 2.
