(Harlan) The Harlan City Council approved the Joint Hazard Mitigation Plan during its meeting Tuesday.
Emergency Management Director Alex Londo explained that the plan is required to be updated every three to five years. A hazard mitigation plan outlines strategies to protect lives, reduce vulnerability, and minimize property damage from natural hazards such as severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding.
In other action, the Council adopted the Regional Planning Affiliates 13 & 18 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. The plan was developed through a federal SS4A program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and focuses on reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries through roadway improvements, safety programs, behavioral changes, and enforcement strategies.
