TSA To Begin Allowing Non-Ticketed Visitors Into Terminals, DSM Hopes To Participate Soon

Thirteen airports will begin allowing those who have PreCheck or Known Traveler Numbers to apply for a Gate Pass on the TSA website. The practice was common before 9/11, when visitors could go beyond airport security to greet family and friends or say goodbye at the gate. Officials at the Des Moines airport say they’ll watch the rollout closely and are interested in bringing it to Des Moines in the future. The new passes may have limited availability during peak times.
State Offers Nearly $40 Million in Workforce Housing Tax Credits

The workforce housing tax credits will help fund nearly 21-hundred new residential units in 39 counties across Iowa. 44 Iowa Elementary School Students Named Iowa’s 2026 National Math Stars
(Des Moines, IA) — More than 40 Iowa elementary school students have been selected as 2026 National Math Stars. The Iowa Department of Education says the 44 Iowa students will join roughly 600 other students from across the country, chosen out of nearly nine-thousand applicants nationwide. Last year, the state of Iowa announced a partnership with National Math Stars, a 10-year program to support students gifted in math. Iowa’s 2026 National Math Stars come from 19 public school districts and two accredited non-public schools.
Unofficial Results: Ankeny Voters Decide To Raise Sales Taxes
(Ankeny, IA) — Ankeny voters decided to approve a one-percent local option sales tax during a special election Tuesday. That’s according to unofficial results from the Polk County Election Office, which show 64 percent of voters in favor of the measure. The Ankeny sales tax will increase from six- to seven-percent starting on January 1. The city says the additional one-percent sales tax is expected to bring in an estimated 12-million dollars in revenue per year, which would be put toward property tax relief and capital projects.

(Des Moines, IA) — The theme for the 2027 Iowa State Fair is being revealed. “It’s All That” will be the theme to promote the food, fun and competitions of the 11-day event. The next Iowa State Fair will run August 12th through the 22nd, 2027.
University Of Northern Iowa Retiring Pro Football Hall Of Famer Kurt Warner’s Number
(Cedar Falls, IA) — The University of Northern Iowa is retiring Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Panthers quarterback Kurt Warner’s jersey number this weekend. Warner, a Burlington native, played football at UNI from 1989 to 1993 before going on to play for the Iowa Barnstormers. He signed with the St. Louis Rams in 1998 and led the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2000. The University of Northern Iowa will retire his number 13 jersey during a pre-game ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the UNI-dome. The Panthers will play Drake at 1 p.m.
