(Greenfield) Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeremy Cooper is asking all GMU Utilities customers to conserve water. The water treatment facility went offline sometime during the overnight hours.
Cooper says the system can bring water in and provide water; however, they cannot treat it at this time.
Cooper says GMU has only about a day’s worth of supply at this time. The water system averages about 600,000 gallons per day out of the water treatment plant. Cooper says the utility probably has less than that on hand as of 10:00 a.m. Today. Cooper says numerous companies are out trying to figure out the exact cause of the problem.
Cooper asks residents to minimize toilet flushing and not take showers unless absolutely necessary. He says GMU serves every community in Adair County, and they are trying to find ways to get SIRWA off GMU services and provide their own services while the GMU system is repaired. He says everyone north and west will still have to come out of GMU.
GMU will provide updates on its Facebook page and website as needed throughout the day. Unfortunately, the office is unoccupied today, so do not call for an update, as no one will be available to answer the phone.”
