(Des Moines, IA) — The Storm Prediction Center says widespread severe thunderstorms are forecast for most of the state this afternoon and evening as a cold front moves across the state.
Non-severe showers and storms are expected to linger across northern and north-central Iowa this morning. Storm activity is expected to become more widespread later today, with some storms potentially becoming severe.
The best chance for severe weather appears to be a swath from southwest Iowa through central Iowa and into the northeast portion of the state.
The primary concerns are damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Large hail and an isolated tornado are also possible.
Showers and thunderstorms could continue into early Wednesday, bringing an additional threat for locally heavy rainfall.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions throughout the day and be prepared to seek shelter if severe weather develops.
