(Atlantic) The Atlantic Girls’ Tennis team started off the season with an 8-1 win over Kuemper Catholic on Friday at Atlantic. The Trojans won five of the six singles matches and swept the doubles. Atlantic Head Coach Mike McDermott liked the way his team competed in the opener.
Charlotte Schwabe of Kuemper defeated Lily Willrich of Atlantic, 8-1, at No. 1 singles, and the Trojans clicked off five straight wins after that.
Dylin Ball shut out Marissa Anthofer, 8-0, at No. 2; Taryn O’Brien downed Rachel Laly of Kuemper, 8-4, at No. 3; Sophie Rose took Eliana Nelson 8-0 at No. 4; Hope Hammontree defeated Anna Schuette of Kuemper, 8-0 at No. 5, and freshman newcomer Lucy Northwick topped Madigan Hoyt of Kuemper, 8-6, at No. 6 Singles.
The doubles teams for Atlantic swept the field with Willrich/Ball over Schwabe/Anthofer, 8-1; O-Brien/Rose over Schuette/Hoyt, 8-1; and Hammontree/Northwick capped off the scoring with an 8-2 win over Laly/Nelson.
