(Atlantic) Atlantic eighth grader London Kirchhoff proved she belonged on the varsity softball field this summer, starting all 40 games and becoming one of the team’s most consistent performers.
For her outstanding season, Kirchhoff earned First Team All-Hawkeye Ten Conference honors as an outfielder. Her impressive play also earned her recognition as this week’s KS 95.7 Armour Insurance Trojan Athlete of the Week.
At the plate, Kirchhoff batted .433, the second-highest average on the team behind senior Lila Wiederstein’s .488 mark. She collected 55 hits, including 35 singles, 19 doubles, and one home run, while driving in 50 runs. Kirchhoff also scored 29 runs, finished with a .471 on-base percentage, and posted a .606 slugging percentage.
Her defensive play was equally impressive. Roving the outfield, Kirchhoff committed just four errors over Atlantic’s 40-game schedule, showcasing her reliability and consistency in the field.
Kirchhoff played a key role in Atlantic’s outstanding 33-7 season, helping lead the Trojans to a perfect 20-0 record in the Hawkeye Ten Conference and the conference championship. As just an eighth-grader, she was a major contributor to one of the program’s most successful seasons.
