(Arion, Iowa) One person died, and three others suffered injuries when a train and a Jeep Grand Cherokee collided at a railroad crossing in Crawford County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident occurred on Sunday on Grace Street, at a Union Pacific Railroad Crossing. Authorities say 24-year-old Sandra Factor Pano, of Omaha, Nebraska, died in the crash. The injured persons are identified as 21-year-old Jennifer Factor Pano, 27-year-old Jose Aquino Factor, and a five-year-old male juvenile.
According to the report, the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 22-year-old Christian Alverado Dimayuga, of Omaha, was struck by the train at the railroad crossing on the northwest side of Highway 30 in Arion. The vehicle came to rest in the ditch between the railroad tracks on Highway 30. The three adults and one juvenile were transported to the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.
Two of the adults were later airlifted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. The Child was transported by ground ambulance to Children’s Hospital.
