(Creston) One person was transported to the hospital following a collision between a car and a tractor on Highway 34, about 1.5 miles east of Creston, on Wednesday.
At 11:57 a.m., Union County Dispatch notified the Creston Fire Department of the crash involving a tractor and a car near the Skyline Bridge. Greater Regional Health EMS, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and the Creston Police Department also responded to the scene.
Firefighters arrived with Rescue 3 and Engine 2 and found a Ford Escape on its side with the driver trapped inside. Crews extricated the driver by removing the windshield and cutting the vehicle’s pillars and roof while paramedics stabilized the patient. After the roof was removed, the driver was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
The driver of the tractor, which was pulling a soybean drill, was not injured.
Both lanes of Highway 34 were closed for about an hour while emergency responders worked at the scene. Firefighters also cleaned up debris and fluids from the roadway before reopening the highway. F&M Body Shop towed the damaged vehicle.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office will release a complete accident report.
