(Griswold, IA) — High School baseball continues tonight as Fremont Mills visits Griswold in a Corner Conference match up, coverage on KSOM.
The Tigers are 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference and are led by Senior Brayden Lockwood who is hitting .290 with 12 runs scored — on the mound he is 1-3 with a 8.33 ERA but has 21 strikeouts in 19 plus innings. Lockwood says he likes the way the first half of the season is going for him especially hitting
His Dad Ryan is the team’s head coach and Brayden says it works well
As a senior, Lockwood is looked up to by other athletes at Griswold — during the golf season, he acted like the team’s assistant coach and getting everybody started in practices when the coaches were running late from their jobs. Lockwood has accepted the leadership role
Fremont Mills is 6-3 and 5-1 in the Corner — they beat Griswold 3-1 10 days ago. The Knights are led by Junior Rhett Lemonds who is hitting .552 with 6 RBI; Senior Sam Sanchez is hitting .519 with 10 RBI; and Sophomore Broden Zimmerman is batting .545 with 14 RBI. Lockwood says they are an all around good team
Lockwood plans on being an electrician once the summer is over — he is in the middle of an apprenticeship right now.
