(Atlantic) The Gilbert girls’ golf team delivered an outstanding performance at the Class 3A Region 2 Golf Tournament on Wednesday, shooting an impressive score of 301 to secure first place among twelve competing teams. Des Moines Christian secured the runner-up position with a score of 328, and both teams are set to advance to the State Golf Tournament.

Atlantic claimed the third spot with a total of 394. Leading the Trojans was Makenna Schroeder, who posted an 89 on the par-69 course. Coach Brooke Newell noted that while the team faced some challenges early on, they managed to finish strong.
Reese Ball and Madison McLaren each contributed with a score of 100, while Hope Hammontree recorded a 105. Mary Leonard rounded out the team’s scores with a 108.
Gilbert excelled throughout the tournament, placing all four of their scoring players in the top ten. Ava Lohrbach captured the individual title with a score of even par at 69, followed closely by Ella Lohrbach at 71 and Elizabeth Thompson at 76.
Des Moines Christian had a strong showing as well, with three of their four scorers finishing in the top ten. Courtney Latham led the way for the Lions with a five-over-par 74, while Alyx Swafford took fifth place with 83, Lauren Herman claimed seventh with 85, and Mia Traeger finished eighth with a score of 86.
Harlan secured sixth place with a score of 411. Brynnley Bissen led the team, finishing in 17th with a score of 98. Tobina Bachman followed closely in 21st place with a 99. Sienna Michels finished 32nd with a score of 106, and Anastacia Kay completed the team’s scoring with a 108.
