(Clarkesville, Iowa) A driver escaped a vehicle after it crashed into the Shell Rock River in Butler County early Sunday morning.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred along Highway 188 near 195th Street in Clarksville. Authorities identified the driver as 45-year-old Adam C. Averhoff, who sustained injuries in the incident.
Investigators say Averhoff was driving a 2023 Toyota SD northbound on Highway 188 when the vehicle left the roadway just north of 195th Street. The car then entered the river.
Emergency responders transported Averhoff by ambulance to UnityPoint Health for treatment.
Officials reported that no other individuals were believed to be involved in the crash.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Clarksville Police Department, Clarksville EMS, Clarksville Fire Department, Butler County Emergency Management, the Iowa Dive Team, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and McDivitts Towing.
