(Ames, IA) — Let the rebuilding commence. The Iowa St. women’s basketball roster has been decimated by the transfer portal but Head Coach Bill Fennelly has made his first signing in the process of restocking the team. Kent St’s leading scorer this year Maya Babbitt has committed to playing for the Cyclones.
This past season, the 5’8″ junior averaged 16.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists for the Golden Flashes. Her outside shooting took a step backward this past season — after shooting 41.5 percent from three point land as a sophomore, Babbitt was only 27.3 percent from beyond the arc this season. Babbitt is from Millard, NE and played for Millard South — she will have one season of eligibility remaining.
Meanwhile, Freya Jensen has retracted her intent to go in the portal and stay with ISU. That gives Iowa St. a current roster of five players — in addition to Jensen, starter Arianna Jackson and Evangelina Paulk are returning and the Cyclones have one freshman coming in this year’s recruiting class — Macy Comito of Carlisle, IA.
