(Lincoln, NE) — Nebraska men’s basketball has struck early in the transfer portal, signing Sam Orne out of Belmont. The 6’9″ forward should fit in well with the Cornhuskers — he shoots the three.
Orne was a second team All Missouri Valley Conference selection for the Bruins, averaging 12.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Orne hit 48 threes for Belmont, shooting at a 39.7 percentage. A former four star recruit, Orne entered the transfer portal once Casey Alexander left Belmont to take the job a Kanas St. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Nebraska is losing four starters off of their Sweet 16 team — Jamarques Lawrence, Rienk Mast and Sam Hoiberg do not have any eligibility remaining and Berke Buyuktuncel has entered the transfer portal. Braden Frager and Cale Jacobsen are also returning. Two other possibilities for the Huskers are Ugnius Jaruševičius who played in just one game this season and Connor Essegian only played in seven games — both players are applying for medical redshirts.
