(Audubon) Lawn mowing season is upon us, and on Wednesday, the City of Audubon posted a public service announcement on social media reminding residents of the mowing requirements.
According to the City Code of Audubon, all properties within city limits—whether occupied or vacant—must be mowed whenever vegetation exceeds 8 inches in height. This requirement is in effect from April 1 through October 31 each year.
If a property is not properly maintained, the City or its agents may perform the mowing. The cost will be charged to the property owner at a rate of $75.00 per hour, plus a $100.00 surcharge. Failure to pay these charges will result in the amount being assessed and collected in the same manner as property taxes.
Blowing grass clippings into the street is prohibited under City Code Section 135.03. If clippings accidentally enter the street, they must be swept up and disposed of properly.
Leaving grass clippings in the street can clog storm drains, potentially causing street flooding and water seepage into basements.
