(Ames, IA) — This might be the most important spring practice in the history of Iowa St. football. With the departure of Matt Campbell and the arrival of Jimmy Rogers as Head Coach, there are 81 new Cyclones on the team this year. That’s right, 81 new players. One of the holdovers is Senior LB Carson Willrich from Blue Springs, MO who has 51 career tackles at ISU. Willrich says its a huge adjustment with so many new faces
Willrich says he stayed because academics is important to him and he is on target to graduate. Also, the defense will be a new 4-2-5 alignment which he likes the challenge of leading. Willrich will be the Will Linebacker which will change his role
Willrich says practice has been very competitive
Iowa St.’s spring practice lasts until April 22 — the Cyclones season opener is Saturday, September 5 against Southeast Missouri.
