(Council Bluffs) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed April 6–12, 2026, as National Public Health Week, highlighting this year’s theme, “Ready, Set, Action.”
The board recognized the role of Pottawattamie County Public Health in providing services such as immunizations, health education, and emergency preparedness, while noting ongoing health disparities tied to access to care and other factors.
Officials are encouraging residents to support public health efforts and take steps to improve community well-being.
Matt Wyant, Director of Planning and Development, told the Supervisors they are entering their tenth year as a department. Wyant provided some history on the public health department.
Wyant said that, to date, the structure they have in place has saved the county $1.37 million and counting. He added that this year, more than most, counties have been encouraged to streamline operations, save where they can, and consolidate how and when they do things.
Wyant said that by 2022, they had received two national awards. Since then, they have continued to develop new programming and funding sources and completed construction of their new health services building.
