(Audubon, IA) — There will not be any team scores for Audubon girls golf this spring — the Wheelers are down to just two players with Senior Sydney Johnson and Junior Maddie Derry playing. However, Head Coach Drew Christensen has high hopes for them to compete for medals and he says they both shoot similar scores. Johnson is the only player back from last year’s team and Christensen says they have been working on refining her swing and she started to figure things out by the end of last year
Derry’s Dad is Chris Derry who is from Audubon and just moved back from South Dakota where she played on a co-ed small school golf team
You need four players to post a team score in Iowa high school golf — you can play with 6 players total and take the 4 best scores. Christensen says its not for a lack of trying — he has talked to a lot of girls and families
In the past Audubon has played combined with Exira EHK but they did not any girls golfers this year so the Wheelers will be on their own and play at the Class 1A level.
They are scheduled to play today against Logan Magnolia but if the conditions force a cancellation, they will try again this Friday against Tri Center.
