Doyle Hans Frederick Madsen, the son of Arthur and Norma (Woolsey) Madsen, was born on November 6, 1955, in Audubon, Iowa, and passed away on April 5, 2026, at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, at the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 30 days.
Doyle attended Exira Community Schools and later earned his GED. While he held various positions throughout his life, he spent the majority of his career as a mason.
A kind-hearted man, Doyle was always ready to lend a hand to his friends and family. He was a proud resident of Exira and contributed to local landmarks, including the 1958 flood memorial park and the city park fountain. Throughout his life, he enjoyed horses, gardening, grilling, and canning. He especially cherished time spent with neighbors and friends at TJ’s Pour House. His greatest pride and joy was spending time with his two granddaughters, Kendrick and Anslee Madsen.
Doyle is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Peter and Norma June Madsen; his brothers, Arthur Madsen Jr., Brian Drew Madsen, and Perry Clay Madsen; and his sisters, Sondra S. Anderson and Monta Rae Bahus.
He is survived by his son, Joshua Doyle Madsen; his granddaughters, Kendrick EriLynn Madsen and Anslee Aaronn Madsen; and his siblings, Brenda Cherrill Parker, Robert Lee and wife Janet Madsen, Douglas Edward and wife Deborah Madsen, Nancy Kathryn Cascardo, Connie Sofie and husband Robert Hempstead, Kelly Monroe Madsen, and Mark Kent Madsen. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Exira, with Pastor Loren Christensen officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service until 12:00 p.m.
