(Des Moines) – In an important step for rural healthcare, Iowa House District #23 State Representative Ray Sorensen of Greenfield has announced that the House has successfully passed HF 2743. This legislation establishes the Rural Health Transformation Fund to manage Iowa’s significant federal rural health investment. With this initiative, Iowa becomes the first state in the country to allocate these funds, receiving an impressive $209 million in the first year of a five-year grant program.
Rep. Sorensen highlighted that this funding will play a crucial role in enhancing healthcare services in rural Iowa, under the umbrella of the Healthy Hometowns plan. Key elements of the funding will support upgrades in hospital technology, recruitment of healthcare providers, the implementation of telehealth tools, maternal transport assistance, and initiatives for cancer screening and prevention. An essential aspect of this bill is the requirement for regular reporting. This will ensure that both the legislature and the public can track the allocation and utilization of the funds.
Sorensen emphasized that this is a significant opportunity for rural Iowa and stressed the importance of ensuring that the funds are managed wisely and transparently.
