(Des Moines) A man from Panora is facing charges after a garage fire in the morning hours on March 31.
Authorities say 22-year-old Preston Virden started a fire by igniting a box inside a garage at a home on Goddard Court in Des Moines. Investigators report the flames spread, causing significant damage to the detached garage.
Police say Virden later admitted to starting the fire but claimed he believed it was fully extinguished before he left the scene.
He has been arrested and charged with one count of reckless use of fire and explosives.
